Throughout the winter, I curate a list of books people have mentioned or that I\u2019ve stared at longingly on the shelves of a bookstore, but have no time to read. Now, sans classes, with a full-time job and the need for a bedtime, I dive into my book list. I\u2019ve quit the Kindle cold turkey\u00a0and now\u00a0I\u2019ve noticed what\u2019s been missing: the book covers. I wouldn\u2019t say the Kindle is killing print books, but it may just\u00a0be killing the illustrators and designers of book covers. If not killing, then seriously maiming . Take a look of \u00a0some of the best work, old and new, that you\u2019ve missed skipping to the meat of the book.<\/p>\n<p>In 2014, these two artists, Sunra Thompson and Patricia Storace, were celebrated among 50 others by <a href=\"https:\/\/www.casualoptimist.com\/blog\/2014\/12\/07\/50-covers-for-2014\/\">The Casual Optimist<\/a> in the <i>50 Covers for 2014 <\/i>article. While the obvious titles are represented such as Joseph Heller\u2019s Catch-22, and J. D. Salinger\u2019s <i>The Catcher in the Rye<\/i>, some are surprisingly beautiful. Perhaps\u00a0we&#8217;ve been numbed to their artistic allure because their covers are iconic, but these artists should be counted among the best: Francis Cugat and Joe Pernaciaro.<\/p>\n<div style=\"width: 410px\" class=\"wp-caption alignnone\"><a href=\"https:\/\/flavorwire.com\/206111\/the-20-most-iconic-book-covers-ever\/view-all\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"\" src=\"https:\/\/flavorwire.files.wordpress.com\/2011\/09\/40.jpeg?w=600&amp;h=843\" alt=\"\" width=\"400\" height=\"562\" \/><\/a><p class=\"wp-caption-text\">The Great Gatsby, F. Designed by Joe Pernaciaro<\/p><\/div>\n<p>I\u2019m not saying let\u2019s all go home and throw out our\u00a0Kindles in protest, but I would be sad to see book cover art influences dwindle. Yeah, we\u2019re not supposed to judge a book by it\u2019s cover, but we do. And readers yearn for a cover that aptly describes the pages beneath.
