Whether we are talking about the cave paintings of <a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Lascaux\">Lascaux<\/a> in France or the more modern works of <a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Shepard_Fairey\">Shepard Fairey<\/a>, these works make a lasting mark. Murals can serve many purposes; they can educate, make a political statement, or they can simply present a visually appealing theme. This enormous work, featuring figures and scenes drawn from the Old Testament, was commissioned by <a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Pope_Julius_II\">Pope Julius II<\/a> and painted by <a href=\"https:\/\/www.michelangelo.com\/buon\/bio-index2.html\">Michelangelo<\/a> between 1508 and 1512. Many of these programs center on the planning and creation of murals. Philadelphia is home to some of the most vibrant examples of this art form.
