With the onset of chilly weather, our thoughts turn toward home, holidays, warm kitchens, and crackling fireplaces. Further, our thoughts turn inward as we reflect upon the year quickly passing. For Dutch masters like <a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Johannes_Vermeer\">Vermeer<\/a> and <a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Pieter_de_Hooch\">Pieter de Hooch<\/a>, interiors were often a way to celebrate the family unit engaged in common activities in a domestic setting and\u00a0among man made objects, as opposed to vast <a href=\"https:\/\/www.zatista.com\/search\/hook\/multi\/su-18\">landscapes<\/a> and the distant beauty of <a href=\"https:\/\/www.zatista.com\/search\/hook\/multi\/su-6\">nature<\/a>.<\/p>\n<div id=\"attachment_8699\" style=\"width: 360px\" class=\"wp-caption alignnone\"><a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Pieter_de_Hooch\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-8699\" class=\"size-full wp-image-8699 \" src=\"https:\/\/www.zatista.com\/art\/ca\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/3\/2011\/10\/Woman-Drinking-with-Soliders-by-Pieter-de-Hooch.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"350\" height=\"427\" \/><\/a><p id=\"caption-attachment-8699\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Woman Drinking with Soldiers by Pieter de Hooch on wikipedia.org<\/p><\/div>\n<p>For an artist like <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nga.gov\/exhibitions\/hopperinfo.shtm\">Edward Hopper<\/a>, interiors provided a way to explore urban isolation and loneliness via solitary <a href=\"https:\/\/www.zatista.com\/search\/hook\/multi\/su-14\">figures<\/a> depicted in private moments, sometimes viewed voyeuristically. There was often melancholy in the spaces he depicted, but there was also a sense of security seen in a familiar environment far from the chaos of city life.<\/p>\n<div id=\"attachment_8700\" style=\"width: 340px\" class=\"wp-caption alignnone\"><a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Edward_Hopper\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-8700\" class=\"size-full wp-image-8700 \" src=\"https:\/\/www.zatista.com\/art\/ca\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/3\/2011\/10\/Summer-Interior-by-Edward-Hopper.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"330\" height=\"277\" \/><\/a><p id=\"caption-attachment-8700\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Summer Interior by Edward Hopper on wikipedia.org<\/p><\/div>\n<p>Some artists describe the occupant of a room through his absence, as in <a href=\"https:\/\/www.vangoghgallery.com\/\">Van Gogh\u2019s<\/a> famous depiction of his room in Arles.
