Artist Statement:
Taking emotional and technical influence from Italian Renaissance painters I try to make sense of what I see and feel through art, while respecting both a modern and historical approach.
The dominant subjects of my work are still life and the human figure. Be it fruit or form, I see each composition as a portrait — characters captured in the moment, actors vulnerable and exposed.
I have had a life-long passion for painting, starting with art lessons at age seven from an artist up the street in small town Nova Scotia. From the beginning, what has driven me to create is my love for the play of light and the fine detail of realism.
