Artist Statement:
My name is Bobbi Heath and I paint from life and imagination. I like to push the limits and find that mixing abstracts with plein air work keeps everything fresh.
To me painting is largely about nature, and our enjoyment of it. I find the many inspiration in my adopted state of Maine, where we have a cottage on Casco Bay. I often gather material for paintings during summer trips with my husband and son on our sailboat, returning with a painting notebook of sketches interspersed with the ship’s log and listings of the many photographs I take to keep the vibrant colors in my mind. What I hope you see in my work is a wonderful reminder of somewhere you have been or a day that was perfect, or perhaps an enticement to find this beautiful spot and make it part of your memories.
I use a limited palette, with a warm and cool of each of the primaries and white. I start with a quick sketch in my book, adjusting the composition until I get something I like. Then I move to the canvas, roughing in the composition with color masses. Sometimes it doesn't take much more than that, and others require a few passes to refine the details. I most often paint with a direct approach, the whole painting is done wet on wet in one session.
