The Same Position This pastel drawing ‘Model Session – 17-06-25 – 2’ is a cubist interpretation of beautiful model, called ‘Donika’. I aimed for an open structure. The second one of this Thursday evening. She more or less took the same position as during the first one. That is because the other side of the room had a frontal view the hour before. The position with all these triangular shapes simply was too beautiful to not study from both sides during one session. Personally I like this one better than the first one. That’s also due to my grown comprehension of Sennelier Pastel Card I used. Unfortunately some of the lamps in municipal centre ‘De Blauwe Tram’ were broken. Therefor there wasn’t that much light but enough to have her body show many interesting light and dark planes. So hail to Donika. She already honored us with her presence last month. Great Triangular Structure The actual position was a bit more opened up than the first, I think. Consequently there she stretched her leg more towards the left. Compared to the height from the hip to her head such formed the perfect ratio for filling the paper. The result is a sort of overall triangular body shape which can be divided into smaller triangular structures. They are formed by her limbs. As to cubism this one is the second of this evening. Quite some time ago since I employed this style in a live session. Model Janneke was sitting on a stool last January. Now I come to think of it I find these kind of cubist interpretations more suitable for live sessions. Realist drawings take a lot of time. Live drawing event are often more suitable for flow sketches. Therefor a loose cubist sketch is a great alternative. One within one hour!
